Sydney Easter Show, 2011

(A very belated) SYDNEY EASTER SHOW, 2011.

It feels like I had visited the Easter Show last year but really in fact it was about half a year ago in April. With only a month to go until Christmas, it's amazing that when I was sorting through my photos just then and found my pictures of the food stalls and cakes, I thought "heck, why not post them now in mid-november whilst it still is relevant to the year of 2011?"

Thanksgiving goes Gaga

It's Thanksgiving Day over in the US, and I just happened to stumble across this short video off Youtube of Chef Art Smith and musician idol Lady Gaga, cooking up a few dishes for the day.

Red Velvet Cupcakes

RED VELVET CUPCAKES

I've been meaning to create these stunning cakes in a while, and after an enticing baking mood kicked in today, I looked upon Taste's Red Velvet Cupcake recipe to make a few of my own at home.

via Taste - what it really should be like!

As an eager beginner to cooking and baking, I stuck to recipes and videos online for guidance. Only a few tidbits were changed from the recipe - small things such as I didn't add white vinegar and added another tablespoon vanilla extract and red food colouring into the mix.

Jonga-Jip BBQ, NSW

JONGA-JIP, NSW

It's not often that I get to have Korean cuisine for dinner, so when I do get the chance to have a Korean BBQ I always look forward to the dishes of bulgolgi, bibimbap, or the naengmyeon (cold noodle soups) and my favourite... those chewy rice cakes (especially dukboki)!

Koi Kei Candy, HK & Pancakes, NSW

KOI KEI CANDY, HK

Last week I received some Hong Kong sweets from my relatives that had returned from their visit to Hong Kong and Macau.

We also went to Pancakes on The Rocks, at the Rocks for some... pancakes!

Palate, NSW

Palate, NSW

On a weekend off from work and away from my usual duties I usually make time for a walk about in World Square for some shopping and ducked inside Palate for some rest before another bout of shops.

As the name suggests; it's a cafe that has various tastes in international cuisines to offer for you palate. With indoor as well as outdoor seats, it's quite a nifty location for city dwellers and shoppers alike to put their feet (and wallets) to rest whilst having a lunch or coffee break.

A fruitful week

A FRUITFUL WEEK

I found this kitchen utensil I've been wanting to try for a long time. It's a metal baller, which can make fruit or vegetables into little balls for a cute decoration to a meal. I just happened to spot one in a Dollar store for around $3 and thought heck, why not.

The Trip

THE TRIP

"When Steve Coogan is asked by The Observer to tour the country's finest restaurants, he envisions it as the perfect getaway with his beautiful girlfriend. But, when she backs out on him, he has no one to accompany him but his best friend and source of eternal aggravation, Rob Brydon."

So I have this movie rented out tonight for abit of inspiration and fun.. I thought I'd rent it out to have a watch and see whether if it's any good, since I'm new to food critiques and probably this'll help me out abit more even though I'd hardly see myself becoming anything but just a humble foodie lover who blogs.  Let's see how it goes anyways...

[edit after viewing:]
After watching an hour of the film I couldn't really find it that entertaining, and skimmed through the rest of the film. For some reason I'd have thought it would be more concentrated on food and dining, but it's only just one aspect of their road trip journey that doesn't really grab as much focus. The  impersonations of celebrities - loved those, by the way!

In other words, tonight was the 11/11/11 and everyone is probably celebrating it! I managed to time myself right and took a picture of the right minute for all the "1"s to be exactly: 11/11/11 @ 11:11PM. AMAZING!

On the second floor of The Galeries Victoria (TGV for short) is the Japanese restaurant Ichi-Ban Boshi. This has been one of my favourite places to eat out for lunch or an early dinner as it is within the Sydney CBD with decent portions as well as being not too heavy on the wallet. It's also at a close distance to shops, the cinemas, bus stops and the Town Hall train station so it's easy to get there to have a quick feed.

Chat Thai, NSW

CHAT THAI

Chat Thai has become more known in the past few years. It is a thai restaurant that's usually turning over tables as fast as the plates are being served. The staff are always friendly and whichever place you choose to venture forth in, you'll instantly notice the 'buzz' that this place exudes - a mixture of bustling energy from the staff and of the hungry people that come for their richly authentic food.

Big Breakfast at Home

BIG BREAKFAST AT HOME

This morning I had a gigantic breakfast with my parents. With a quick dash across the street to the supermarket for food, we had some freshly bought ciabatta bread loaf, eggs, strips of bacon, a bunch of Swiss brown mushrooms, cream of corn, baked beans and chunky kransky sausages.
