Looking For

Billabong Bistro Restaurant, NSW

Venturing off into the western suburbs I came across a local pub for dinner in Merrylands at the Billabong Bistro Restaurant

It's a great spot for the community to come down to watch a game, have some drinks and then something to nibble in the bistro area with some nice bistro-style dishes.

I spoke with the head chef of the Bistro and almost immediately you can see his passion for cooking good food. Chef Hoang has the keen eye for presenting great dishes and also his care towards the community with previous participations in wonderful local events and charities. Chef Hoang is no stranger to cooking, as he tells me that he has had a fair share of years serving within the hospitality industry. During then, he's been learning and developing the taste for creating new dishes for his Bistro as well as introducing a selection of American influenced dishes that derive from the latest USA travels he had came across.

Every morning, Chef Hoang will go towards Cabramatta to source out the market for any local fresh produce to be used in the Bistro. He explained his emphasis for fresh produce and that he also uses his own grown herbs to accentuate some of his dishes for a finishing touch to the Bistro's meal. It's things like these that can show you that this business has devotion and care towards each plate served.

We start off with a Vietnamese chicken and apple salad. A light and tangy appetizer which was a good start to our meal. It was refreshing to begin with.

One of Chef Hoang's new special item of the week which changes bi-weekly to offer their customers something different. That evening, he also made us the stir fried green curry with lamb and bamboo shoots. The curry was mixed in with carrots, onion and wood ear mushroom with vermicelli noodles and presented neatly on a small asian wok bowl.

His other special for the night was a sesame chicken and baby corn mushroom. This was served with a generous portion of rice and was a comforting meal in itself.

To end this sweetly, we each order a creme caramel for a sugary treat. Smooth, silky caramel flans that each jiggle their way towards our table and slide onto our spoons.

Lunch at the Bistro begins from 11AM - 3PM and Dinner commences from 5PM-9PM. There's also a $10 Daily meal special which is a bargain bite!

Tip: Go on a Friday to Karaoke at 7PM then grab a meal at the Bistro!
